Code of conduct
Rules for the official Retrocycles.io rooms and the platform. Community servers have their own rules.
Chat
- No harassment. Banter about the game is fine; personal attacks are not. No threats, bullying, or following someone from room to room.
- No hate. Nothing against anyone for their race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, sex, gender, sexuality or disability.
- No sexual content. Many players are young.
- No personal information. Don't share your own or anyone else's. Don't ask other players for their age, location, photos or other accounts.
- No spam. No flooding, no scams, no advertising.
Chat in official rooms may be filtered, which means a message can be blocked or changed before others see it. Normal game talk ("cut him off", "nice kill") is fine.
Names
- Your name in the game and your handle follow the same rules as chat.
- No impersonation. Don't use the name of another player, a creator or a moderator, and don't pretend to be staff.
- We may rename you or reclaim a handle that breaks these rules.
Play fair
- No cheating. No bots playing for you, no modified clients or tools that give you an advantage, and no exploiting bugs. If you find a bug, please report it to us.
- No farming. Don't use second accounts or guests to gain kills or XP, and don't trade kills.
- No griefing. Don't wreck your own team on purpose.
- No ban evasion. Don't get around a mute or ban by using a new guest, a new account or someone else's account.
Accounts and shared computers
- One person, one account. Don't share your password and don't play on someone else's account.
- On a school or family computer, select shared computer when you sign in, and sign out when you're done.
- A guest is tied to the browser it was created in. If a guest is muted or banned, that applies to anyone else who plays as it on that browser. To start a new guest, open your name (top right) and choose New player.
- If someone else has used your account, contact us at support@retrocycles.io.
Reports
To report a player in an official room, press Esc, select the player and choose Report. Pick a reason and optionally add a short note. Moderators also see the room's recent chat. In the desktop game, type /report followed by the player's name and a description. You can also email support@retrocycles.io with the room, the approximate time and the player's name.
Every report is reviewed by a moderator. We may not be able to tell you the outcome.
What happens
Most issues are resolved with a warning or a mute. Repeated violations lead to stronger sanctions:
- Warning. A message from a moderator, or a blocked chat message.
- Mute. You can keep playing but cannot chat, for anywhere from minutes to days.
- Kick. Removal from the room.
- Temporary ban. No access to official rooms for hours to weeks.
- Permanent ban. For the most serious cases, or when other sanctions have not worked.
Some violations lead directly to a ban: threats of violence, sexual content involving minors, and sharing someone's personal information. Where required by law, we report these to the authorities.
Sanctions apply to your account or guest ID in every official room. We do not ban IP addresses on their own, since a whole classroom or household may share one. Players who join from the desktop game without logging in have no ID; they can be muted or kicked, and their IP address can be banned only temporarily.
Room moderators can also use the game's built-in tools, such as kick votes, silencing and flood limits.
Appeals
If you believe a decision was wrong, email support@retrocycles.io with your handle or guest ID (shown when you open your name, top right), the room and the approximate time. Every appeal is reviewed and answered by a moderator.
Where this applies
This code applies in the official Retrocycles.io rooms (Quick Play and other rooms run by the platform) and on the platform itself, including names, handles and anything else you post there. Community servers in the server browser are run by their own admins under their own rules.
This code is part of the terms of use. We may update it; the current version is always on this page.
